the importance of eights
Optimizing task boundaries is an important part of effectively managing tasks. Obviously, In mitime, the most important boundaries are entering and exiting midai: mistart and mi0 respectively.
Remember too that mistart is structurally more important that mi0, as it is necessary to set the structure of midai. Clearly, from the standpoint of optimizing planning and executing midai, it is more important to wake up at a consistent time, regardless of when you actually fall asleep on any given night.
These coincidences of Standard Mitime (SM) can serve as important reminders:
- at 8am standard time, an eighth of SM midai has elapsed
- at 8pm standard time, an eighth of SM midai remains
Inside the eights, tasks tend to be small, focussed, regimented, and well defined. The eights are high habit-energy times, with the goal of optimizing the transition into and out of midai.
8am reminds me to check that midai has started properly, or if adjustments need to be made.
8pm reminds me to properly cap tasks and optimize rest hygiene.
